Sri Lanka has been ranked as most family-friendly country in 2025 by Remitly, an American remittance company who launched a new immigration index designed to help inform those considering relocating.

The report, released in March 2025, ranked 82 countries across 24 factors, from healthcare quality and economic strength to safety metrics and digital connectivity, assigning each with a total score of 100.

One such factor considered how family-friendly a country was, focusing on data points like the quality and accessibility of education. The company used statistics such as the average years of schooling adults had completed, the expected years of schooling for children, and the average annual cost of childcare. The report then generated a score for each country to determine the most family-friendly nation.

Sri Lanka achieved an impressive score for its education system (0.7 out of 1.0) and a low annual childcare cost of $354.60 per year (compared to $16,439.40 in the US, which ranked in 10th place). It’s no surprise that Sri Lanka ranked so highly in this list – in fact, we named the country one of our favourite places to go for multi-gen megatrips in 2025, due to its welcoming nature, focus on outdoor activities and family-friendly Sri Lankan hotels, said Conde Nast Traveller in its report.

The island nation known for its natural beauty, boasts an array of remarkable wildlife, thriving in its expansive national parks and along its stunning beaches.

The country is rich in history, with ancient sites and cultural landmarks that tell tales of its diverse heritage. Its coastline, dotted with picturesque beaches and charming fishing villages, adds to its allure.

Sri Lanka also offers a vibrant culinary scene, featuring a delightful mix of flavors and spices, while its bustling markets and shopping districts cater to a wide range of tastes, making it a fantastic destination for both relaxation and adventure.
