The Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) made Sri Lanka proud not only as a potential destination for its historical and cultural values, mesmerising locations and various travel choices but also in the international culinary field by emerging winners in three main categories at the World Food competition held in India and organised by the Guru Nanak Institute of Hotel Management, Kolkata, from February 24 to 27, 2025.
Twenty two countries participated at this event including South Africa, Russia and Indonesia showcasing their culinary talent and cuisine iconic to each country.The event had several categories and Sri Lanka displayed their skills at the Cake Icing, Fruit Carving, Mixology and Chef competitions.
Rashmi Randika from Sri Lanka displayed her talent at the Cake Icing competition. The 1st runner-up in this competition was from South Africa.
Upeka Ekanayake won 3rd place while the winner of that Category was from Indonesia. Mauritius emerged winner in the Mixology competition, while the 1st runner up was from Indonesia and Chandula Ilangasinghe was 2nd runner-up. Russia dominated as the winner in the Chef competition, while Indonesia and Switzerland were the 1st and 2nd runners up respectively. Anuradha from SLITHM participated at the event.
On behalf of Sri Lanka Tourism, SLITHM hosted a special ceremony to honour their achievements on their return to Sri Lanka. The ceremony was held under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe, Chairman SLITHM, Dheera Hettiarachchi , Ministry officials and students.
The Minister elaborated on the impact this achievement had on Sri Lanka bringing international recognition to the country. The SLITHM students displayed their culinary talents and their potential to highlight Sri Lankan authentic cuisine to the world at the event.
