Royal College took their revenge on their arch rivals S. Thomas’ by beating them by four wickets in the 48th limited over encounter to annex the ‘Mustang Trophy’ played at the SSC ground yesterday.
Royal sent the Thomians in to bat first who only managed to score 220 runs in 49.1 overs.
Opening batsman Jaden Amaraweera scored 70 runs off 142 deliveries and hit 7 boundaries. Useful contributions also came from Sadev Soysa (32), Reshon Solomons (27) and Dineth Goonewardene (25) to build on their innings.
Goonewardene and Jaden Amaraweera was also involved in a useful partnership of 59 runs for the third wicket.
Khalidh Rahimdeen and Ranuka Malaviarachchi claimed two wickets each.
In reply Royal scored 223 for six wickets off 46.4 overs.
Opener Hirun Liyanarachchi gave Royal the platform for victory by scoring 105 runs. He faced 127 deliveries and hit a six and 13 boundaries. Hirun and Vimath Dinsara put on 67 runs partnership for the third wicket.
Vimath Dinsara (30), Thevindu Wewelwala (24*) and Anush Polonnovita (23) also chipped in to build their innings.
Hirun and Anush Polonnovita was also associated in another useful partnership of 60 runs for the fifth wicket.
Thomian skipper Kavindu Dias claimed 3 wickets for 56 runs.
