St. Joseph Vaz emerge champions

St. Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa emerged champions of the Under-19 Division Two Tier ‘A’ schools limited overs cricket tournament when they beat Taxila Central College Horana by 16 runs in the final played at Surrey ground Maggona on Friday (14).

Electing to bat first St. Joseph Vaz scored 153 runs in 47.5 overs. Savio Fernando (31), Shehara Fernando (26), Kavinda Ratnayake (22) and Akarsha Warnakulasuriya (20*) helped to build their inning.

Rashan Deemantha and Yomash Yasith claimed three wickets each.

Taxila Central replied with 137 runs in 48.2 overs. Kuvindu Madubjasha top scored with 72 runs off 130 deliveries with six boundaries and a six.

Himal Ravihansa claimed 4 wickets for 32 runs and Mathisan Fernando captured 3 wickets for 22 runs.
