Chamod Yodasinghe of the Army (60m), Kalinga Kumarage Army (400m) and Kaveesha Bandara of Sri Lak Athletic Club (60m Hurdles) have qualified to participate in the 21st World Indoor Athletic Championships to be held in Nanjing, China from May 21 to 23.
Kaling Kumarage qualified according to the world ranking system while Chamod and Kaweesha earned this opportunity based on their performances at the First National Short Track Championships held at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo late last month.
This is the highest number of athletes Sri Lanka is sending to participate in a World Indoor Athletics Championships in 24 years.
In 2001, Susanthika Jayasinghe, Sugath Tillakaratne, Damayanthi Darsha and Rohan Pradeep Kumara participated in the 9th World Indoor Athletics Championships held in Lisbon, Portugal.
