The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has nominated Dr. Ruvaiz Haniffa as its Mayoral candidate for the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC).
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said that the residents of the Colombo urban area deserve a highly developed and modern city and that Dr. Haniffa is fielded as a leader capable of fulfilling that vision. He described Dr. Haniffa as an enthusiastic, people-friendly professional who has intelligence, knowledge and leadership qualities for good governance.
A medical professional, Ruvaiz Haniffa has worked at the Negombo, Ampara and Sri Jayewardenepura hospitals and contributed to the care of thousands of patients.
He is an academic who lectures at the Medical Faculties of the Kelaniya and Colombo Universities and pays special attention to strengthening free education.
He also serves as a lecturer in family health and was among the founding members of the Family Health Unit at the University of Colombo.
