Traffic Police officers have commenced operations to track down vehicles with fake number plates.
Police have identified nearly 267 vehicles with fake number plates with security cameras installed in Colombo and the suburbs.
Investigations revealed that some people who had registered the vehicles with fake number plates, didn’t have any vehicle in their possession.
Police have received information that some people had committed crimes using vehicles with fake number plates. Investigations conducted with the information received from the Police CCTV division, legal action has been taken against the users of nearly 12,300 vehicles, who had violated traffic rules.
