The Government will provide an extra 3 percent interest on deposits by senior citizens with effect from July 1, 2025 according to a senior minister of the government. The special interest scheme for senior citizens was proposed in the 2025 budget to improve the income levels of this segment of the society. The additional interest rate will be applicable only to deposits of less than Rs. 1 million to citizens of the age of 60 and above.
