Battle of Kotte will prove exciting

The 46th Battle of Kotte between the two schools in the Capital City of Sri Jayewardenepura, CMS Sri Jayewardenepura College and St. Thomas’ College will take place on March 28 to 30 at the Colts Cricket Club ground at Havelock Town. They will play for the KJ Ranasinghe Memorial Shield

Principal of Sri Jayewardenepura College Gamini Hettiarachchi said that his team has done very well this season so far and he predicted his school will end up on the winning side.

He also mentioned that his school has produced a national cricketer in Hemantha Devapriya and renown umpires BC Cooray and BS Perera.

The principal of St. Thomas’ College Rev. Fr. Arunodha Perera said that this was his first year with the College and wished both teams will play well and bring about a positive result.

He also said that his College too has produced a national cricketer in Shane Fernando who ever ready to extend his support to improve the game at the school.

The big match encounter began in 1919 and the Christian College, Kotte was captained by the late KJ Ranasinghe and this battle of Kotte is played in memory of him every year thereafter.

Sri Jayewardenepura College is leading the series with 9 wins while St. Thomas’ has won it 5 times and the rest were drawn.

St. Thomas’ College Kotte is led by Isuru Jayasinghe while Sri Jayewardenepura College is led by Sachin Boteju. (TBR)
