Richmond Masters in thrilling two wicket win

Richmond Masters overcame Mahinda Masters by 2 wickets in a thrilling contest in their Third Masters T/20 “Brotherhood Beyond Boundaries” Cricket encounter, jointly organised by the Richmond Cricket Club and Mahinda Club/Mahindra Foundation, played at the Bloomfield ground, Reid Avenue, Colombo on March 15.

Batting first Mahinda Masters scored 137 for 9 in 20 overs and in reply Richmond Masters scored 138 for 8 in 19.4 overs.

Mahinda openers Tharindu Randima and Thusitha Paliwatte kept the score board ticking with a solid 51 runs opening stand. After the dismissal of Tharindu Randima wickets fell at regular intervals. Thusitha Paliwatte playing the anchor role scored 42 runs off 15 balls including 8 fours and a six.

The ninth wicket pair of Nuwan Madushanka and Lakshitha Lahiru, steadied the innings with a partnership of 40 runs. Nuwan Madushanka scored 35 runs off 35 balls including 2 fours and 2 sixes.

Tharindu Weerasinghe captured three wickets and Samantha Lorensuhewa captured 2 wickets for Richmond.

Richmond opener Fawaaz Jishtys stroked a fine 22 runs in 21 balls including two fours, Anil Rideegammanagedara scored a marvellous 25 runs off 17 balls including 3 fours and a six, Sampath Udayakumara stroked a gallant 22 runs off 22 balls including three fours took Richmond Masters pass the 100 plus mark with 7 wickets down.

Richmond Masters ended up winners of the 3rd “Brotherhood Beyond Boundaries” T/20 Cricket encounter with 2 balls to spare.
