Dialog Axiata PLC, reinforced its position as a global thought leader in digital identity and trust at the Mobile Identity Summit 2025, held during Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona — one of the industry’s international gatherings hosted by the GSMA.

This landmark summit convened 15 leading speakers and over 400 participants from around the world to discuss how mobile technology can enable secure and inclusive digital ecosystems.

Lim Li San, Group Chief Operating Officer of Dialog Axiata PLC, took part in the expert panel alongside a distinguished lineup of global leaders. She shared insights on the rising threat of online fraud — particularly in emerging markets — and the critical role mobile operators play in strengthening digital trust through secure, scalable identity solutions.

“In a world where mobile financial transactions are growing exponentially, the role of mobile operators has evolved from being just a connectivity provider to the last line of defense against digital fraud attempts,” said Lim Li San, Chief Operating Officer of Dialog Axiata PLC.

“At Dialog, we are committed to developing robust Mobile Identity solutions that not only protect our customers but also empower our partners in the financial sector to build a safer, more trusted digital ecosystem,” he said.

Li San outlined the rising tide of consumer fraud across Asia-Pacific, emphasising the urgent need for scalable, inclusive identity solutions. She shared Dialog’s pioneering work in Network APIs, which provide critical fraud prevention insights such as OTP Validation, SIM Swap Indication, Silent Number Verification, and Ownership Change Detection — services.

Dialog’s leadership in this space is underpinned by its longstanding innovation journey, which began in 2014 with the world’s first MobileConnect pilot, developed in collaboration with local partners. While the initial solution catered to developers as a secure login alternative, Dialog has since pivoted toward the GSMA Open Gateway framework, launching a federated suite of Network APIs in 2023, now adopted by banks and fintechs across Sri Lanka.

A highlight of the session was Dialog’s collaboration with LankaPay, Sri Lanka’s national payment network, to address fraud linked to JustPay Mobile SDKs — software toolkits used by FinTech apps.

By integrating the GSMA Open Gateway Number Verification API, Dialog and its fellow mobile operators enabled real-time validation of device ownership, significantly reducing instances of OTP hijacking through social engineering.

This industry-wide solution was developed in partnership with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, and is set for mandated adoption across all banks and FinTechs in 2025.
