Sri Lanka’s Powerlifters brought honour to Sri Lanka by winning five gold medals and a bronze medal at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Powerlifting Championships held in Melbourne, Australia recently. They arrived in Sri Lanka on April 7.
This competition saw about 500 athletes from 18 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
Ransilu Jayathilaka, who competed in the 120 kg weight category, Vikum Perera, who competed in the 105 kg weight category and Minura Gimhan, who competed in the 94 kg junior category, won gold medals in their categories.
In addition, Minura Gimhan, who competed in the 94 kg senior category, had won a bronze medal.
Also, Ruwan Paul and his wife Lydia Paul, a Sri Lankan powerlifting couple currently residing in Australia, had participated in this competition representing Sri Lanka.
Ruwan Paul, who competed in the 120 kg weight category for the over 50s and Lydia Paul, who competed in the 100 kg weight category for the over 50s, also won gold medals in their respective categories.
Ransilu Jayathilaka, Vikum Perera and Minura Gimhan arrived at the Katunayake Airport from Melbourne, Australia on April 7 at 10.15 pm on Sri Lankan Airlines.
