Yevan David: Sri Lanka’s star on the fast track to Formula 1

Seventeen-year-old Yevan David may not be old enough to legally drive a car on the streets, but put him behind the wheel of a Formula 3 car and he’s ready to leave the competition in the dust. Racing at speeds over 265 km/h, the Sri Lankan teenager is already turning heads in the motorsport world, proving he’s on the fast track to greatness.

David’s latest leap forward is a major one. The young driver has signed with Motopark, one of the most prestigious teams in European motorsport, for the 2025 Euroformula Open season. It’s a championship-winning team that has launched the careers of F1 stars like Max Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda. For Yevan, this is more than just a seat in a car—it’s his chance to take his career to the next level.

“I’m thrilled to join Motopark. They’ve helped many top drivers get to the next level and I hope I can do the same while making Sri Lanka proud,” claimed Yevan.

Yevan’s journey to this point hasn’t been an easy one. In Sri Lanka, motorsports are still growing and opportunities are scarce. But with a string of impressive results, including back-to-back titles in the X30 Asian Karting Series and strong showings in the FIA-CIK karting championships, Yevan has made his mark on the international stage. Not to mention, his pole position start at the FIA Motorsport Games made him the first Sri Lankan to do so at an international event.

Despite his youth, Yevan is already proving himself as a contender in the world of motorsport.

“He may not drive on city streets yet, but give him a race car, and he flies. Yevan has raw speed, a great work ethic and a deep hunger to learn. We believe he’ll be a real contender this season,” said the principal of Motopark team Timo Rumpfkeil.

Supported by sponsors such as Merc Stop, Alcom, Dayholi and the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC), Yevan has all the backing he needs to succeed. “He’s carrying our flag,” said a CMSC official. “We believe he can plant it on the podium.”

The 2025 Euroformula Open season will be a true test for Yevan. With 24 races across eight weekends, including iconic circuits like Spa-Francorchamps, Monza and Barcelona, he will need to stay sharp and focused. One mistake can cost a race and the competition will be fierce.

But Yevan is used to pressure. While other teenagers his age are hitting the books or hanging out with friends, Yevan is studying lap times, perfecting his racing lines and chasing milliseconds. Every second on the track matters.

“I want to show young people in Sri Lanka and Asia that anything is possible. Motorsport is tough, but if you give it everything, the doors will open,” he said.

With Motopark by his side and the world watching, Yevan is ready to shift his career into high gear. And as the engines roar in Europe in 2025, the world will witness the rise of a 17-year-old from Sri Lanka, racing toward a future that promises to be nothing short of legendary.
