Ananda Balika marks 100 years with book launch, song

The Ananda Balika Vidyalaya hosted an education exhibition featuring a book launch to mark the school’s centenary. The event was held under the patronage the school principal W.B.G. Kumudunie.

Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Nalaka Kaluwewa was present as chief guest and former Senior Lecturer at Department of Sociology and Anthropology of University of Sri Jayewardenepura Praneeth Abeysundara delivered the keynote speech.

The first copy of the book ‘Abimanawath Siyawasa’, penned by former assistant principal and distinguished old girl Madhavi Dissanayake, was presented to the chief guest Nalaka Kaluwewa. The UK chapter of the Old Girls Association donated a Smart TV to the school which was handed over by OGA General Secretary Ruchira Yapa Abeywardena and old girl Chandrika Gunawardhana.

The event also released the school’s centenary song, written by alumnus Sujika Wickramasinghe and composed by former music teacher Harini Manjula that was recorded in the studio of Jananath Warakagoda by a group of former school choristers. Deputy Principal, Assistant Principals, members of the Old Girls Association, Treasurer OGA Ranoja De Silva, former principals, teachers and students were also present at the event.
