Sri Lanka’s pavilion was opened in Japan’s Expo ‘2025 that is being held in Osaka -those visiting the Expo 2025 have the privilege of seeing Cherry Blossoms since it is in season till May . The Expo 2025 will be on until October 2025.

Sri Lanka became one of 161 countries to open its pavilion at the Expo 2025 in Osaka Japan on 13th April 2025 amidst the grand opening on the previous day of this World Expo, an international exhibition showcasing new technologies and promoting global exchange that will continue until 13th October 2025 in Osaka, Japan.

The theme is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” focusing on saving, empowering, and connecting lives through collaborative innovation and cultural exchange. The expo is located on Yumeshima Island, in Osaka Bay, and aims to address global challenges and explore solutions for a sustainable future by promoting global exchange and understanding between nations and cultures, showcasing new technologies and solutions for global challenges and inspiring collaboration and innovation in designing a future society.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, in collaboration with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan and the Sri Lankan Business Community in Japan, are participating in Sri Lanka’s pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka.

This global event will serve as a significant platform for Sri Lanka to present its unique cultural heritage, innovation, and commitment to sustainability to an international audience.

The Opening Ceremony of Expo 2025 was on 12th April 2025, while the opening ceremony of the Sri Lanka pavilion was on 13th April 2025, graced by officials from the Sri Lanka Embassy in Japan, a high-level Japanese delegation, and members of the Sri Lankan Business Community in Japan.

This event allows Sri Lanka to showcase its rich cultural heritage, innovation, and commitment to sustainability to a global audience, and. foster international partnerships, and promote its tourism industry.

Inaugurating the pavilion, Charge d’Affaires (a.i.) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan, Sesath Thambugala highlighted the significance of the expo as a global platform to showcase Sri Lanka’s cultural identity and its potential as a destination for trade, investment, and tourism. She expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan for its support and appreciation to the Sri Lankan business community and associations in Japan for their vital contributions to the organization and operation of the pavilion.

Located in the Commons A Pavilion within the Empowering Lives zone (No. D-3), the pavilion will feature Ceylon tea, coconut-based products, spices, Ayurveda, handicrafts, and promote opportunities in ICT, skilled employment, and investment, throughout the six-month expo.A key highlight of the pavilion is the tea counter hosted by the Sri Lanka Tea Board, where visitors can taste sample specialty teas from the island’s seven tea-growing regions. A series of cultural performances, investor forums, and business networking events will also be held, positioning Sri Lanka as an attractive hub for travel, trade, and partnerships.
Other institutions represented at the pavilion included the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, Coconut Development Authority, National Crafts Council, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, and the National Gem and Jewellery Authority.
