Greetings!

The month of April was indeed a holiday month for most, with so many holidays and festivities abound. While most of you were on your own travels, Sunday Observer Explorer too was away and we did not publish on two Sundays, April 13th and April 20th respectively.

However if you missed seeing the fun and enjoyment in person at the mega events during the festivities, we have plenty captures of the precious moments and have allocated two full pages. Do see pages 32 and 33 featuring some of the best events held for the Avurudu festival in the City and in the Tourist hubs in the outskirts of Colombo.

Sri Lanka Pavilion in Japan’s Expo 2025

Its Cherry Blossom time in Japan, and what better time for the global traveler to then head towards what’s famously known as the land of the Cherry blossoms! While there you need to pop into Expo 2025, where the Sri Lankan pavilion is beautifully set up to showcase all about our country.

More than 36 million visitors are expected to attend the six-month-long event as visionaries from over 100 countries descend on Osaka to reveal their visions of the future, from the latest, mind-blowing discoveries in AI, robotics, and health technology, to sustainable energy, and quantum computing. It doesn’t get more ‘once in a lifetime’ than this – and you can be part of it all.

Beyond the wonders of the Expo itself, you’ll find the vibrant city of Osaka to discover, known as Japan’s kitchen for its famed cuisine and neon nightlife, and that’s just the beginning. There’s the Kansai region, where you’ll find other wonderful places like Kyoto, Nara, Kobe and the sacred mountain of Koya-san. With the famous Japan Rail Pass you can explore the Expo and the rest of the entire country without limit, whether it is a visit to Nagasaki, Tokyo or even Hokkaido, where the Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom right now as our cover page picture displays!

Call up your outbound local travel agent and book a trip while the beautiful flowers are in full bloom. While visiting Japan, visit our Sri Lankan pavilion too and see for yourself how beautifully we are presented on the global stage.

Meanwhile at home steady progress is being made with the Marine Tourism Roadmap launch and the stage in now set for the next step in our journey towards more sustainable, inclusive and resilient tourism development.

We invite you all to share with us your holiday travel stories, like how writer Bhadri Dhurgabakshi has done so with her stint in the Maldives. Do write in to Sunday Observer Explorer and we will feature your story in the Travelogue.
