Trinity College recorded a resounding 62-5 victory over their hometown rivals St. Anthony’s College in the President’s Trophy Inter-Schools Knock-Out Rugby Tournament pre quarter-final encounter played at Longden Place yesterday.
The Trinitians collected their points from seven goals, two tries and one penalty after having led 29-0 at half time. The Antonians managed only a solitary try.
Trinity opened the scoring in the sixth minute of play with Bilal Nazeer doing the honours while full back Shan Althaf fired across a neat penalty to increase their lead to 8-0 after 13 minutes.
Prop forward Manusha Silva went over the whitewash for their second try and Althaf added the extra points to make it 15-0 in the 25th minute of play.
Trinity were on fire at this stage as they planted two back-to-back tries through scrum half Udan Wijekoon and Evin Jayasena with Althaf making no mistake with both conversions.
Trinity continued with their excellent form after the resumption as winger Minula Yaddehige powered his way to touch down as Althaf added the extra points to make it 36-0 after 40 minutes.
Trinity brought their tally to 50 points mid way in the second half as Yaddehige touched down for the second time in the game with Althaf adding the extra points.
Trinity added two more tries during the closing stages of the game through Avishka Jayasekera and Yaddehige.
Senaratne scored a consolation try for the Antonians in the 62nd minute. (SJ)
