Indian Police, Army and other Security Forces are carrying on with what the Indian media is describing as “Intense search and cordon operations” across Indian-administered Kashmir. Numerous armed raids are reported to have taken place at various locations, with Anantnag Police reporting that 175 people had been detained for questioning as part of efforts to find the suspects of the deadly Pahalgam shooting.
The Special Operations Group of police in the Indian-administered Kashmir said a raid in a forested area successfully located a hideout for armed groups. A “Significant cache of arms and ammunition was found from the site,” it said. Indian media released an image of the raid, which showed several AK-47 rifles, a pistol and many ammunition magazines confiscated by the Police, which also said they are trying to “dismantle support networks aiding terrorist activities”. Indian authorities have issued a ban on live coverage of the military and security operations to hunt down the suspects in the Pahalgam shooting that killed 26 people. Police in the Northeastern Assam State had arrested at least 10 people for “Supporting Pakistan” in social media posts. India and Pakistan traded small arms fire along the 740km de facto border separating the Indian and Pakistani areas of Kashmir for a second night without any casualties. – Al Jazeera
