Sri Lanka is famous for gem stones from ancient times. Many areas in the Sabaragamuwa province are well known for its gems. Rathnapura is the most famous region for gems. Because of this Rathnapura is called the city of gems. Different regions in the country have different ways of making jewellery. Gems are mostly worn for their beauty. People also believe that gems have the power to bring good luck.
