Launch of Sinhala-English Dictionary

Buddhadasa Hewage Sinhala-English Dictionary is the first ever most comprehensive Sinhala-English Dictionary in Sri Lanka today, in which 150,000 synonyms have been given for 95,000 Sinhala words. Nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, pronouns and idioms have been given separately in a volume of 2,500 pages.

This dictionary fulfils a great need of a complete Sinhala-English Dictionary, for which Hewage has worked for the past 20 years.

The dictionary will be officially launched at the BMICH on November 23 at 10 am.

Ven. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Nayaka Thera, Chancellor, Sri Jayawardhanapura University will preside over the ceremony; while Kalakeerthi Dr. Edwin Ariyadasa, Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara, Dr. Tudor Weerasinghe of Sripali Campus, Chathurika Sirisena will deliver speeches.

Hewage has won Kalakeerthi, Kalabhushana, Excellence Award from Mihindu Foundation, Australia, the Prathibha Prasada, and has been awarded The Best Novelist, The Best Short-Story Writer, The Best Translator, The Best Teledrama Writer. He has published 16 books and performed numerous charity work using the little money he saved from his teaching career.

Free dictionaries will be donated to poor village students who have achieved success at national level, at the ceremony, with the sponsorship of “Mithrathwa Yathrawa” and several donors.
