War heroes enjoy Christmas fellowship

An Army Seva Vanitha project enriched the yuletide spirit among 330 wounded war heroes who are resident at the Army wellness resorts such as ‘Mihindu Seth Medura, Abhimansala, Ragama ‘Ranaviru Sevana and HQ Battalions. The fun filled morning got underway in Colombo when the valiant soldiers enjoyed a popular film at the Regal Cinema. Subsequently, these gallant young men were entertained with music and a succulent lunch at the Colombo Hilton. Inspiring his men and uplifting their morale was the dynamic Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva and the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) President, Mrs. Sujeewa Nelson.

The mega arrangement, organized on the guidelines given by Mrs Ludmila de Silva, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Artillery - Seva Vanitha Unit (SLA-SVU) was attended by Major General Jagath Gunawardena, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General Ruwan De Silva, Military Secretary and Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery.This beautiful program that remembered the sacrifice of our soldiers commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the Army Commander at the request of Mrs Sujeewa Nelson who was keen on making this event a reality with the support of her ASVU and Artillery Seva Vanitha teams.

With the culmination of the screening, the war veterans were taken to the Colombo Hilton and entertained to a stellar musical show with guest artistes in the calibre of Rukantha Gunatilleke, Uresha Ravihari, Nalin Perera, Raini Charuka, Sunil Perera, Lahiru Perera and a few other stars. This memorable Christmas entertainment would certainly heal the minds of these young men who sacrificed their future to safeguard our future. The Army Commander and the ASVU President interacted with all these war heroes, and presented each one with a souvenir. The event came to a close with the vote of thank by Mrs Kumudini Wanigasooriya, an Executive member of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit. The happy soldiers, with their indomitable will to face any challenge left the hotel with blissful memories and renewed hope.
