Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that due to the shortage of doctors in the health sector, there is an opportunity for doctors who are abroad for training in the medical service to come back to Sri Lanka and work.
The minister also stated that about 600 doctors who are abroad for medical training are due to return to Sri Lanka in the next two months and they can join the hospital service again. The minister made these comments to the media while disclosing the existing plans to fill the vacancies in the health service. The minister said further that there is a plan to re-recruit doctors and specialists who retire at the age of 63 and doctors who reach the age of 63 can retire according to the prescribed procedure and then re-join the service on contract basis for a period of 02 years.
