Kandy favoured to win

Kandy Sports Club the defending league rugby champions who are unbeaten so far this season, will be at Welisara to take on Navy SC in their Nippon Paint second round Cup segment match today (5).

In the first round game played at Nittawela, Kandy SC beat the Sailors by 21 points to 18. Kandy SC is a well organized team and have never squandered possession as they always endeavour to put it to good use. They play to a plan and pattern and every player knows his job and that is what separates them from the rest of the teams.

Wake up call for CPRFU

It’s a wake-up call for the Central Province Rugby Football Union which has been out of action for a long time. They have been called up to organize the inter-school all island ten-a-side under-16 rugby tournament by Sri Lanka Rugby and the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association. This event is to be played at the Trinity College ground at Pallekele on February 25 and 26.

The schools participating are Dharmaraja, St. Sylvester’s, Wariyapola, Sri Sumangala, Sri Rahula, Vidyartha, Sarasavi MMV, Nugawela Central, St. Thomas’ Matale, Kingswood, Trinity, St. Anthony’s, Piliyandala Central, Royal, St. Peter’s, St. Joseph’s, Isipathana, S. Thomas’, Wesley, Mahanama, Thurstan, Richmond, St. Aloysius, Kegalle Central, Maliyadeva, St. Thomas’ Bandarawela, Dharmadutha MMV and Anuradhapura Central.

Battle of the Babes

The 63rd cricket encounter between St. Sylvester’s College and Vidyartha College also known as the Battle of the Babes will be played at the Pallekele Stadium on March 31 and April 1.

The one-day game between these two schools will be played on April 7 or 8 at the Asgiriya Stadium for the MED Madiwaka Trophy. Both teams possess a good set of players. Vidyartha last won in 1967 under RM Lafir.

St. Sylvester’s have won this series 14 times while Vidyartha have only three wins. This match is played for the Rev. Fr. Don George trophy.

Rajans-Kingswood match in March

The 115th cricket match between Dharmaraja College and Kingswood College is tentatively fixed for March 17 and 18 at the Pallekele Stadium and will be played for the TB Tennakoon Memorial Trophy.

The 34th 50-over game between these two schools may be played on March 26 at Pallekele Stadium for the Winston Hoole Memorial Trophy.
