Kandy SC favoured to beat CR

Kandy’s rugby lovers believe that their favourite side has an edge over CR to win the league title in the hills for the 24th time at Nittawela today. Kandy SC are leading the points table with wins from all their encounters and CR is left with the daunting task to win with a massive margin if they wish to take hold of the Nippon Paint league trophy that will be presented after the game.

Kandy under-16 schools football

Some sixteen teams were in action at the Kandy schools Under-16 football two-day tournament that began yesterday at Pallekele.

Organisers said the occasion was a great opportunity for the young footballers to display their talents and skills in their quest to gain future recognition.

Junior hockey starts next week

The under-21 Junior National men’s and women’s hockey championship is to be held in Kandy from March 23 to 26 where fifteen men’s and ten women’s teams will be in action. According to hockey promoter R. Maheswaran they are hoping to play the matches at the Bogambara Stadium or Peradeniya University ground.

Schools ten-a-side rugby

The Central Province Rugby Football Union headed by Kavinda Jayasena, has been called up to organize the inter-school all island ten-a-side under-16 tournament by Sri Lanka Rugby and the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association. This tournament is to be played at the Trinity College ground at Pallekele on February 25 and 26. The schools expected to participate are Dharmaraja, St. Sylvester’s, Wariyapola Sri Sumangala, Sri Rahula, Vidyartha, Sarasavi MMV, Nugawela Central, St. Thomas’ Matale, Kingswood, Trinity, St. Anthony’s, Piliyandala Central, Royal, St. Peter’s, St. Joseph’s, Isipathana, S. Thomas’, Wesley, Mahanama, Thurstan, Richmond, St. Aloysius, Kegalle Central, Maliyadeva, St. Thomas’ Bandarawela, Dharmadutha MMV and Anuradhapura Central.
