Rain thwarts exciting climax at 104th Trinity-Antonian

Rain ruined the 104th Battle of the Blues cricket encounter between Trinity College and St. Anthony’s College as the game was forced to end in a draw at Katugastota yesterday.

Electing to bat first, St. Anthony’s were bundled out for 110 and Trinity in reply started off well scoring 86 without loss when rain brought the game to a halt at 3.10 pm on the first day.

Continuing on the second day Trinity were able to score 221 before lunch as skipper Rahal Amarasinghe batted very well to score 66 with nine hits to the ropes to add to three sixes.

Had he added eleven more runs he would have reached the 1000-run mark.

Manjula Kularathne made 44 and the two bowlers Kaveesha Piyumal 4 for 31 and Traven Mathew 3 for 43 were among the wickets.

Batting a second time St. Anthony’s College taking to the crease after lunch were 38 for 3 when it poured down within the first hour of the second session for the match to be called off.
