Antonians prepare forJoes opener

Over 30 players are hard at practices as St. Anthony’s College prepare for the upcoming schools rugby season.

Their first game is on June 14 against St. Joseph’s College at the Bogambara Stadium and they will also play against Trinity, Royal, Isipathana and S. Thomas’.

Sahan Keerthisiri will be leading the side this season coached by Srinath Sooriyabandara an old boy of Isipathana.

Trinity gear up

Trinity College’s rugby team will be led by fourth year Coloursman Attab Manzil who can fit in as a fly-half or full back.

They are fortunate to have a top class coach in Fazil Marija and their first game is against Dharmaraja College on June 17 at Bogambara. Trinity will also play against Royal, Vidyartha, St. Peter’s and Science College.

Sri Sumangala beat Sri Rahula

Sri Sumangala College became the only school from Kandy to win their traditional match this season whey beat Sri Rahula College by an innings as Movindu Balasooriya picked up a match bag of ten wickets.

Sri Sumangala scored 259 and in reply Sri Rahula made 144 and 61.

Ekanayake, Waduge shine

Kandy pace bowler Thenuka Ekanayake of Kandy Zone 1 team picked up nine wickets for 10 runs against Batticaloa in their first-round fixture in the Under-19 Provincial League Inter-District Limited overs Cricket Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

Right hand batsman Supun Waduge scored an unbeaten 123 runs off 143 balls with eight hits to the ropes and two over it that helped Kandy I to score 335 for 5 in 50 overs. They bowled out Batticaloa for 54 runs in 15.4 overs.

Mahamaya, Antonian girls match

Battle of the Blazing Blues one day cricket encounter between Mahamaya Girls College and St. Anthony’s Girls College will be played on June 16 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
