Antonians make smashing entry into Super Six

St. Antony’s College produced an extraordinary brand of robust rugby to rout S. Thomas’ by 34 points to 17 and cruise to the Super Six stage in their Dialog inter school League rugby encounter played at Pallekele yesterday.

They scored six tries and two conversions that gave them the bonus point to ensure that they qualify to the next round.

The Thomians could reply with only two tries, two conversions and a penalty.

The Antonians opened scoring in the tenth minute when off a line out they performed the rolling maul and Thisara Galagedera went over the line.

Yehan Bulathsinhalage put over a simple penalty to give the Thomians three points.

The Antonians increased the lead through another superb try by Tyron Mariyadas off a three-quarter move and led 10-3 at half time.

The Antonians maintained their robust style of play with their heavy forwards penetrating into the Thomian territory time and again.

They scored two tries through Mariyadas and Roshen Kumara with one being converted to give them a 22 points to 3 lead.

Thereafter the Thomians scored their try through Manil Fernando off a line out. Bulathsinhalage converted to give them ten points. Saduka Athukorale scored a try for the Antonians to increase their lead.

After that the Thomians scored a try followed by another try by Kithsiri for the Antonians to take an overwhelming lead and win 34-17.
