Kingswood-Wesley today

The inter school league rugby match between Kingswood College and Wesley College will be played today (Sunday) at the Bogambara Stadium. Last year Wesley College won when they defeated traditional rivals Kingswood College.

Kandy SC AGM today

The 149th Annual General Meeting of Kandy Sports Club will be held at their club house at Nittawela today.

Controversy also surrounds the meeting on whether the right people with be elected to call the shots as Mahesh Weerasinghe will say good-bye to the presidency. He has been in the Committee since 1999 and Kandy SC prospered.

Mihini and Nimesh are judo champs

Mihini Dassanayake of Kandy Girls’ High School and Nimesh Abeykoon of Kingswood College Kandy emerged the best athletes in the girls and boys categories at the 24th Sri Lanka Schools Judo Championship held at the Jayathillake indoor stadium, Nawalapitiya this week.

Jinaraja Balika Vidyalaya, Gampola, won the girls’ overall first place with a massive 23 points with Kandy Girls High School coming second with 13.5 points. Wickramabahu National School won the boys’ title with a narrow 1.5 margin beating Anuruddha Kumara National School Nawalapitya.

Kandy cricket in full swing

Visuvious Sports Club beat Madawala Cricket Club by one wicket in the Kandy District Cricket Association Division Three tournament.

Sylverstains CC 315 runs for 7 wickets in 43 overs (Naveen Amarasinghe 117, Anusha Balasooriya 67 not out, Sasanka Navaratne 50, Nilana Nayanaka 3/39)

Kandy Zeylanikans CC 308 in 42 overs (Udara Jayasooriya 102, Harsha Attanayake 57, Lahiru Viranga 45, Nuwan Senadeera 3/53)

Southerland SC 217 for 9 in 42 overs (Asanka Bandara 83, Isura Wathsala 50, Lahiru Herath 6/35)

CP hockey champs

In hockey the men’s and women’s teams made the Central Province proud as both teams did well to win the championship at the 47th National Sports Festival held at Police Park in Colombo.

Dhammika Ranasinghe and KLS Kumari were the best players in the men’s and women’s event.

Madina wins

Madina College Madawela gave a good display of rugby to beat Model School by 90 points to 10 in their inter school under-19 Dialog Division III match played at Madawela.
