It’s a little bit funny this feeling inside
I’m not one of those who can easily hide,
Don’t have much money but if I did
I’d buy a house where we
both could live
If I was a sculptor, but then again no
Or a man who makes potions
in a travelling show
Oh I know it’s not much but its’
the best I can do
My gift is my song
And this one’s for you....

Are you an Elton John fan? Who isn’t! The above lyrics written by Bernie Taupin are from Elton John’s hit ‘Your Song’. And next month you’ll get the opportunity to relive a two hour period of Elton John’s hits when Piano Vocalist, Entertainer and Composer the Australian born Greg Andrew performs his Elton John Tribute Show at the BMICH on November 3. We’ve haven’t heard him before, but from all reports we’ve had, it will be a show not to be missed.

Greg Andrew has performed in Australia and overseas with shows in over 30 countries and for a collective audience of over 500,000 people. Two years ago in 2017 he was the first Elton John Tribute Artiste to be invited to perform at TRIBFEST UK which to date is the biggest and most prestigious tribute artiste festival in the world.

With an uncanny likeness to Sir Elton he has been described by critics as “he owns the stage, channels the music and has the audience believing it could really be the man himself.” In a quick spool back Greg Andrew graduated from Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 1989 and performed throughout hotels in Australia. Entertainment was in his blood and in 1981 he applied as Entertainment Manager for P & O Resorts.

He organised nightly entertainment within Heron Island Resort – a jazz and blues night, an Aussie bush night, a rock ‘n roll night, a piano bar night and an island night. He was exposed to many forms of entertainment which gave him strength to leave entertainment management in 1993 and he went on purely a performing circuit in an around Australia.

With his likeness to Sir John unbelievable, together with his virtuoso playing skills, vocal timbre and showmanship, in 2010 Greg Andrew focused on Elton John Tribute Shows featuring himself as Sir Elton John.

In his career he has released five albums – The Elton John Experience, I’m Still Standing, Dream A Little Dream, More Than This and Themes From the Big Screen. He pays homage to the wonderful music of Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin and will perform most of the classic hits of theirs over a 40 year period.

Here in Sri Lanka next month if your favourite song is Your Song, Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Daniel, Don’t Let the Sun Go Down or Candle in the Wind to name a few, make your tracks to the Elton John Tribute Show, Elton John Experience. By all reports you will never regret it.
