Creative arts competition for children

The High Commission of Bangladesh in Colombo in collaboration with Education Ministry will hold a creative arts competition for children to mark the international Mother Language Day which falls on February 21, 2010.

The competition themed “Language for Unity” will be open to children of Grades 6 to 13 in vernacular and English medium education institutions.

The creative work - painting, short story or poem - should be attested by the shcool Principal or the class teacher and they can be in Sinhala, Tamil or English. The Embassy prefers works of poetry and short stories, a release from the High Commission stated.

An essay should not exceed 500 words while a poem must be within the range of 50-100 words. For the painting category, a child is expected to design the artwork based on her own imagination, and it can be in sketch or colour form and in any medium. Parental and teacher guidance is discouraged.

The original work done in A3 art paper should reach the High Commissioner, High Commission of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka, No 3. Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7.
