“Come Alive! The Broadway Spectacular”, presented by the theatre initiative of Kolam Studios will be staged on September 8, at 7.30 pm at the Lionel Wendt theatre
A new organisation with its sights set on inspiring drama enthusiasts and students to hone their skills in the art of the stage, Kolam Studios is a theatre initiative that began its ventures of March, 2023.
Comprising a group of school leavers and students from various schools in Kandy, their first steps towards achieving this target was to offer up their services to schools without a wide outreach of drama facilities and experience. They began conducting a series of workshops and practice sessions with the objective of teaching the students the various aspects of drama, instilling them with the knowledge of how to perform on a stage and ways to uplift their theatrical talents.
In addition to its ongoing project of conducting drama workshops in schools, Kolam Studios presented its first public performance on August 18, 2023. Now, with the experience and success of the Kandy show under their belt, they have set their sights on Colombo,where the cast will be performing on the 8th of September.
The show, “Come Alive! The Broadway Spectacular” is an ensemble of some of the most popular Broadway hits throughout the ages.
With songs from renowned musicals, such as The Sound of Music, modern hits such as Hamilton and The Greatest Showman to classic Disney songs from Beauty and the Beast and Frozen, the musical has something special to offer for everyone.
Venturing through powerful dances from The Greatest Showman, hauntingly whimsical music from The Phantom of the Opera, fun-loving boisterous numbers from Hairspray and Mamma Mia, resonating messages from Dear Evan Hansen, magical escapes through two of the best Disney musicals to grace the stage and much more, the musical will weave together an enchanting night of entertainment that anyone can enjoy.
With the talents of members of the organisation and students from various schools in Kandy, the musical will be brought to life with spellbinding voices, entrancing songs, creative costumes and lively dances, channeling the essence of drama and music in a whirl of sound and color.
