Well-known poet and Freelance Journalist, Miran Perera was awarded the Journalism Award by the Catholic Centre for Social Communications for his contribution towards religious journalism to the print media.
Other eminent journalists of the Gnanartha Pradeepaya, the Sinhala Catholic Newspaper of Sri Lanka also received awards.
Miran is a long standing contributor of articles to the Sunday Observer writing religious oriented articles, among others.
Miran Perera was given his award in April 2017 at the Good Shepherd Convent hall in Kandy amid award recipients who had contributed towards the enrichment of Art, Culture and social media.
Miran has also composed many Catholic poems which have been published in national newspapers.
He has also contributed to the Lake House Buddha Pradeepa Vesak Magazine and written Buddhist articles in the print media.
The above awards were given by the Catholic Centre for Social Communications to promote journalism within the cultural framework, encouraging journalists to write, being aware of the values and social practices in a multi cultural, multi religious country.
Many Catholic priests and Reverend Sisters were present at the occasion.
The award ceremony concluded with the staging of religious Passion play 2017 ..
