Magnitude 6.3 Earthquake Hits Philippines, Halts Manila Railway Operations

15 June, 2023

The Philippines' main island experienced an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale this Thursday (15 June). The authorities confirmed that the earthquake disrupted railway operations in the capital city of Manila.

Fortunately, no casualties or significant damage were reported in the aftermath of the earthquake. The Philippine seismology agency revealed that the quake originated from the sea, with its epicenter located at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles). Despite its offshore origin, the tremors were felt in the nearby provinces, causing a ripple effect across the region.

Responding to the seismic activity, the transport ministry made the decision to suspend operations on the three elevated railway lines within Manila. This precautionary measure aimed to ensure the safety of passengers and mitigate any potential risks posed by the earthquake
